Eric Stuart

QPM, B.A. Hons

Eric is a lecturer at Buckingham New University (Crowd Safety Management) and member of the UK Crowd Managers Association.

After a 33 year police career with firearms, helicopter and covert deployments, Eric retired in 2012 after delivering the largest national event in the history of policing, the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay over 70 days and 8,000 miles. He holds FdA and BA hons in Crowd Safety Management and now delivers training in crowd and events safety in the UK, US and Canada.

He presents at the American Events Safety Alliance 2017, andwas key note speaker at the Canadian ESA Safety Summit in April 2017. He was based at New Scotland Yard as a Public Order Planner, managing Notting Hill Carnival, New Years Eve and multiple major policing operations. He began as a lecturer at the EPC in 2006 and  maintains a strategic role.



Emma Parkinson

(Senior Lecturer – Coventry University)

Emma is Senior Lecturer, Emergency Planning and Management at Coventry University.

She leads the modules in Emergency Planning and Management and teaches across a range of subject areas, including risk management, the aetiology of disaster, emergency planning (UK and international), command and control, safety cultures, dealing with emergencies in the UK, crisis and incident management, and testing training and exercising of emergency arrangements.

Emma started her career as Crowd Safety Management Manager of the UK’s largest voluntary stewarding organisation (Oxfam), placing staff at major events all over the UK. Following this she held the posts of Head of Department and Senior Lecturer- Security & Resilience at Buckinghamshire New University and was Course Leader for Foundation and Batchelor’s degrees in Crowd Safety Management. Emma specialises in crowd safety management and contemporary issues for crowded places and is currently developing a new range of undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

Simon Ancliffe

M.A. (Chairman, Movement Strategies)

Movement Strategies is the leading people movement and crowd dynamics consultancy worldwide, and founder Simon Ancliffe is considered an industry leader. He pioneered both the use of dynamic crowd simulation and mobile phone data for tracking and managing pedestrian movement.

He was the principal crowd movement adviser to London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games throughout the planning and delivery of London 2012 between 2006 and the last day of operations of the Paralympic Games. He He has advised or continues to advise many of the world’s leading venues and large events including the Grand Mosque at Mekkah, Notting Hill Carnival and Glastonbury Festival.  

He is the co-author of “Guidance on designing for crowds – an integrated approach”. He has provided expert advice and contributions to guidance including for the UK Safety at Sports Grounds Authority, the UK Railway Safety and Standards, and the HM Government Guidance on Crowded Places




Lorraine Yorke


Lorraine is a Compliance Safety Advisor for Leisure Services and Events Industries. She is an experienced Event Safety Officer from a Local Authority background with over a decades operational experience. She holds a Diploma Events Safety Management (Derby University), NEBOSH Diploma Occupational Health and Safety, Post Graduate Diploma Physical Activity and Public Health (Staffordshire University), is an Advanced Scaffold Inspector and a Member of PASMA.

She is also qualified in Chapter 8 traffic Management, Internal Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems Audit, Audit of HSG 65 and OHSAS 18001 Management Systems and Accident Investigation.

Lorraine is also a trainer of health and safety courses such as, First Aid at Work, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and creates, develops, presents and delivers a variety of bespoke training courses in line with current operating procedures and legislation. She also a qualified trainer holding Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector Certification.
